We recommend considering UPS for cold weather shipping. See the blog for more details.

An update on shipping options

An update on shipping options

tl;dr: USPS Priority Mail got more expensive and less reliable.  UPS options might be safer for cold weather.

"Moving through network, arriving late..."

That is what the image says.  Its a screenshot from package tracking information on USPS.  This has become a recurring theme since early summer, with average Priority Mail transit time now being 4-6 days instead of 2-3.  We're getting into colder weather now, though, and that makes me worry.

Options including heat packs are now available for selection at checkout, but please note, heat packs only last 96 hours (4 days).  For some of you, this might be fine.  The package only has to escape the New England area within that time, and then the rest of its transit might be in warmer climates, so it works.  For others, though, this might not work.

So, I strongly recommend that you consider using UPS shipping options as we get into November, so we have some expectation of packages arriving when they're supposed to, within the life span of the heat pack.  We just can't guarantee safety of plants traveling by priority mail anymore.  We've been lucky so far, but I think those days are over. :(

Currently, UPS 3 Day is available for everyone.  UPS 2 day or overnight upgrades are available on request.  Rates and add-on fees vary wildly for UPS services, so for the moment expedited options have to be quoted based on package details and delivery address.
