Dendrobium findlayanum
This species is closely allied to Dendrobium nobile, and can be grown under similar conditions with a cooler, drier winter rest and has similarly striking flowers with a velvety throat. However it has one very distinctive characteristic - those unusual stems. In the spring these grow out fast and start out skinny, but the segments gain heft toward the end of the season, resulting in the string of beads appearance that you can see here.
I like to grow this species in small baskets of sphagnum. Water when dry and fertilize regularly during the active growing season, then slack off in winter and move them someplace a little cooler. Typically sheds its leaves during dormancy, then blooms in the spring.
You will get one of the plants shown, or one similar in size. These are recently imported and currently in wee pots of sphagnum. Plants are not currently in bloom.
