Euphorbia x japonica plants established 2.5" pots. This is an easy to grow euphorbia that has the look of a cluster of pineapples. As it grows, it can form caudex-like structures, and will branch, forming more little "pineapple arms". They generally stay compact.

If you're not familiar, the little "x" indicates it is a naturally-occuring hybrid. In this case, it is between Euphorbia susannae and Euphorbia bupleurifolia. Both of its parents are found in the wild in South Africa, and all three are cultivated as garden plants in mild climates (where temperatures remain above ~50F). E. japonica combines the best characteristics of each, and injects some wonderful hybrid vigor.

E. japonica has a preference for well-draining soil in smallish pots, for the aeration, with reasonably frequent watering in very hot weather. e.g. a summer rainfall succulent. In the winter, it will want to be allowed to be a bit more dry, especially if it is living in a very cool windowsill. They are flexible in light level, preferring part shade if outside for the summer. Inside, a bright East or West facing window would be great. They are not tolerant of freezing, so plan to bring it inside once temperatures drop below 50 at night, sooner if you have a very wet fall.
