Huperzia sp. 'Hexagon'

Glossy, pointed scales arranged in a spiraling overlapping fashion such that it gives an impression of having a hexagon-shaped cross section.  These have a smooth, waxy texture that should grant this plant greater tolerance of lower humidity and humidity changes. To my knowledge, this is an unidentified species.

Huperzias are fern allies from a group of plants sometimes called club mosses, fir mosses, or tassel ferns, though they are neither ferns nor mosses, but they do reproduce by spores like both of those things.  Texture of Huperzia foliage varies, but always has some form of long branching stems with leaflet or needle like structures.  They are almost never truly sharp, and are just fun to pet.

Grow in baskets or mounts with sphagnum.  High humidity is appreciated but many folks report most species adapt well to lower humidity - in that case, though, you might want to use a plastic pot so they don't dry out as fast.  They are not demanding of light, bright shade, even a bit less than phalaenopsis is fine.

We have nice sized, recently imported plants establishing in moss balls. We recommend growing them suspended (foliage hanging below the ball) while acclimating them to your growing area, watering by way of the hole in the plastic opposite the plant stems.  After a few weeks or even a couple months you can unwrap and move the moss ball up to a basket or pot of your choice.  You can continue to grow it upside down, or gently turn the plant right side up and let it drape.

You will get one of the plants shown or one similar in size.
