Cattleya (syn. Laelia) purpurata f. flamea x f. sanguinea, community pot of three seedlings
There is potential for these to flower with flares, white picotee edge, and jewel-tone, saturated color. L. purpurata is a large cattleya species, growing tall leaves, though with very closely spaced, upright growths. The reward they offer is multiple, very large flowers, up to 7 inches across per flower, with 3-5 flowers per spike on mature plants. Also they are wonderfully fragrant.
As with most large cattleya, plan to give this a very sunny windowsill (bright West or South facing window preferred). Mature plants are tolerant of a cooler, drier winter rest.
