A fun little mixed planting of (Brassavola nodosa x Prosyclia Memoria Young C. Lott) and two Dorstenia foetida plants.
Flower photos are examples of how the cattleya bloom out; this hybrid can be pretty generous with the flowers, bearing upright spikes of 3-7 flowers. Older plants sometimes bloom several growths at once, creating quite a show, or one growth at a time, which gives an extended display.
Dorstenia plants tend to bloom what seems like all the time, with these unique, quirky stars. The species is a mini-caudex type plant, creating a thick trunk but never seeming to get very tall. Plants get their name from the fact that bruised foliage tends to smell of gasoline. Fortunately, undisturbed, there is no weird smell though :)
As a community, they may eventually need to be separated, since the cattleya may start to grow over the dorstenia. Just keep an eye on them, and either move the dorstenia out to the edges of the pot at a future repotting, or to separate pots with a well drained potting soil, as for succulents.
