Orchids are like tribbles

(Nilz Baris) "There must be thousands of them."
(Capt. Kirk) "Hundreds of thousands."
(Spock) "1,771,561. That's assuming one tribble, multiplying with an average litter of 10, producing a new generation every 12 hours over a period of three days."
- 'The Trouble with Tribbles', Star Trek

Why are orchids like tribbles? Well ask any collector. Once you step past the ordinary grocery store plant, you find yourself with a quickly multiplying collection and an even longer wish list.  There are so many colors, shapes and textures, and so much to discover!

This vibrant floral portrait was inspired by a specific cattleya species, but as you can see I certainly took some liberties.  It was a lot of fun to paint this intergalactic yellow and pink flower, and its...is that dilithium green?  What color is dilithium anyway?  We'll just call it that, to stay on theme!
