Sinningia insularis is a flower machine.  The species is semi-indeterminant, and will branch and rebloom on existing stems, as well as send up new ones.  A mature plant can remain in flower for months at a time.  I have not noticed a need for a dormant period to give this result either, but they are certainly built to weather one if that works better for your conditions.

Available plants are blooming size in 4" pots, though they may not be in bud or bloom upon arrival.

I recommend growing conditions similar to Sinningia leuchotricha. It typically has an active summer growing season, loving frequent watering but not waterlogged conditions. Use a high porosity soil mix. These can live happily outside in the summer in light shade, with direct sun for about half the day. A west or south facing window in the house would be equivalent. In the winter I bring it inside to a cool growing area (about 65F, but a drafty, chilly windowsill will likely suffice) and reduce watering. They may shed their foliage during dormancy, thats okay.  This species has less need of a completely dry winter than leuchotricha.  My older plants will bloom all winter with only indifferent, periodic watering in cool conditions.

Note about shipping: All plants are wrapped carefully and shipped via USPS priority mail. Make sure to unwrap carefully, it can be easy to accidentally damage plants when unwrapping while very excited! Plant may be shipped bare root at my discretion. Hawaii & Alaska shipments at your own risk.
