Cymbidium Hanalei 'Thepsathid' alba
x canaliculatum var. sparkesii - seedlings

Expect compact (in cymbidium terms) plants with stiff foliage bearing abundant flowers on semi-pendant stems.  Plan on giving them strong light and a cool winter with reduced watering (when mature) for best flowering.  Alba characteristics tend the be recessive, so these will probably be dark color flowers maybe with a lighter aura around the edge.  Species used for this hybrid are all epiphytic, pot accordingly.

Cym. Hanalei form used here was from a remake of the hybrid with alba parents, and bears pendant spikes of bright yellow flowers on relatively compact plants.

Cym. canaliculatum var. sparkesii, the pod parent, has long plumes of super dark flowers and high flower count, and is one of the parents of the famous hybrid Little Black Sambo.  Note, the species reportedly prefers alkalinity, and many Australian growers top dress the media with a dusting of lime.  For these seedlings, we have incorporated oyster shell into the media.  That won't influence pH but will offer extra calcium, at least.  It's unclear if they hybrid will have any opinions on this matter, but extra calcium is usually appreciated regardless.

You will get one of the seedlings shown, or one similar in size, recently potted up to 2.5" pots.  They are a few years from blooming size.  As they are seedlings, each will be unique.
