The old ones. A play on words, to some extent, referencing the age of the pitcher, the tradition of the simple still life setting, inspriation from the impressionists, but also a barely visible texture that... I hesitate to say - I know you'll all think it weird - but the texture makes me think of Cthulhu. Yes, you should laugh, I am. It was one of those thoughts I couldn't let go once I'd had it. For the most part though, Cthulhu is hidden, you might not even notice him.
The setting itself contains two apples, and a pearlescent pitcher. I was primarily focused on the play of color, and its relationship to contours. Thats a fun thing, particularly with the finish on the pitcher - the real life object changes subtly every time you look at it. I tried to capture that in the painting.
