*New variety! Sinningia cardinalis compacta!*

S. cardinalis compacta varies from the wild type in growth habit.  Where the regular cardinalis form has a sprawling habit with long stems, compact has a perky, upright and tidy habit, and flowers that are similarly upward facing.  They still do have large, brilliant red flowers over bright green foliage.  Overall a very attractive, bold display.

This Brazilian native gesneriad, from the state of Rio de Janeiro, enjoys a winter rest. I find this species to be very amenable to "brief rest" in winter, if you prefer, remaining almost in perpetual growth.

These are blooming size plants in 3 inch pots.  These are young plants, though may produce their first flowers this year.  Blooming plants shown are for reference only.  All my sinningias are seed grown by me in the USA.

NOTE: Foliage on this species cracks easily, I do my best to prevent but sometimes USPS outsmarts me.  But if this happens, the plants also replace the foliage easily during the growing season, so don't worry!

I recommend growing conditions similar to Sinningia leuchotricha. It typically has an active summer growing season, loving frequent watering but not waterlogged conditions. Use a high porosity soil mix. These can live happily outside in the summer in part shade. A west or south facing window in the house would be fine too. In the winter I bring it inside to a cool growing area (about 65F, but a drafty, chilly windowsill will likely suffice) and reduce watering. They may shed their foliage during dormancy, thats okay.

FLAT RATE SHIPPING - just one price for as many plants as you want! Mix and match!
All plants are wrapped carefully and shipped via USPS priority mail. Make sure to unwrap carefully, it can be easy to accidentally damage plants when unwrapping while very excited! Plant may be shipped bare root at my discretion. Hawaii & Alaska shipments at your own risk.
